Building on our work to strengthen radiotherapy practice in AAI countries – including the launch and management of the HypoAfrica study and our long-standing collaboration with renowned medical physicists Profs. Saiful Huq, Stephen Avery, and Wil Ngwa – BVGH and partners (University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine) have launched the Access for Medical Physicists to Education and Research Excellence (AMPERE). Funded by NIH/NCI, the AMPERE fellowship program will catalyze impactful global radiotherapy and oncology research projects led by medical physics students and recent graduates.
This year’s AMPERE Fellows, who are from Virginia Commonwealth University, Howard University, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Washington University in St. Louis, will conduct research projects in Bangladesh, Ghana, and Nigeria, and will be co-mentored by faculty at the Asian University for Women, Sweden Ghana Medical Center, Nigerian Association of Medical Physicists, MD Anderson, University of Virginia, and University of Washington.
